Tucked into more than five private acres in Bethlehem, Connecticut, Bethlehem Pond House is a country home meant to be wandered.

Follow the light throughout the day. Start with coffee on the front porch, find a sunny corner with a book, gather by the pool in the afternoon, put a record on as evening settles in, then linger over dinner outside.

This home has history, personality and plenty of quirks. Rooms lead to unexpected spaces, staircases take you to different corners, and four living areas give family and friends places to gather with plenty of room to spread out.

Outside, the house sits low and well back from the road, surrounded by mature trees, a private pond and abundant wildlife. Here, it often feels as though the property belongs to nature first, and the rest of us are simply lucky enough to be her guests.

• Room to Gather and Spread Out

Four separate living spaces let family and friends gather together while still having room to spread out. Find your favorite chair, put on a record, settle in with a book or bring everyone together for dinner.

• A Pond for Every Season

The private pond adds another layer of stillness to an already peaceful property. Approximately 12 feet deep at its center, it is a natural habitat as much as part of the landscape. You may even spot the pond's lone koi or its impressive resident snapping turtle.

• Summer by the Pool

The 20 x 40 pool is open Memorial Day through Labor Day and reaches approximately 5 feet at its deepest point. Poolside lounge seating makes summer afternoons easy.

Pool heating is available for $150 per day and must be requested in advance.

• A Front Porch Worth Lingering On

The front porch offers lounge seating and a dining area. Start with morning coffee, have breakfast outside or simply settle in and watch the property wake up around you.

• Outdoor Living

An outdoor dining area nestled into the yard creates a special spot for long meals outside. As evening cools down, gather around the large fire pit with firewood provided.

A small rear porch offers a grill and seating, while an outdoor shower is available during warmer months.

• Kitchen & Dining

The spacious main kitchen is fully equipped for preparing and enjoying meals together. Gather around the indoor dining table, take breakfast to the front porch or carry dinner outside.

A second kitchen makes outdoor entertaining easy, with a refrigerator, dishwasher, laundry, acrylic drinkware and serving trays. A small mudroom provides pool towels and convenient pool access.

• A Little Less Screen Time

Part of the charm of Bethlehem Pond House is slowing down. There are just two TV, located in the front living room and back lounge. Instead, you will find a record player, gathering spaces, porches, pool, pond and fire pit. Strong WiFi keeps you connected when needed.

Guest Room 5: Three twin beds (desk and couch)

Guest Room 5 is one of the home's wonderfully unusual spaces. From upstairs, it is accessed through Guest Room 4. It also has its own private staircase from the back of the house.

Maximum occupancy is 11 registered overnight guests.

GUEST ESSENTIALS

Linens, bath towels and pool towels are provided. We also provide a starter supply of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, dish soap, dishwasher pods, toilet paper, paper towels and laundry detergent.

WANDER OUTSIDE

Set well back from the road, the home feels private and surrounded by nature, with no neighboring homes in view.

Depending on the season, you may see deer, birds and other creatures that call the Connecticut countryside home. The pond has its own residents too, including a koi and large snapping turtle. Please enjoy wildlife from a respectful distance and remember this is their habitat too.

During cold weather, the pond may freeze, but never assume the ice is safe for walking or skating.

ONE DOG MAY BE CONSIDERED

One well-behaved dog may be considered with advance approval. Pet fee is $40 per night.

• One dog maximum

• No pets on furniture or beds

• No pets in the pool

• Pets may not be left alone unless securely crated

• Please walk your dog along the driveway or road when possible

• Pet waste must be picked up promptly

• Report indoor accidents or pet-related damage immediately
