Turtle's Nest
About
Come and enjoy this wonderful dog friendly island home complete with a golf cart for your use.
Turtle’s Nest Cottage pays homage to this community tradition of witnessing the turtle hatchlings make their way to the ocean from their nest. On the 10 miles of the Oak Island beaches, excitement builds from May - October. It’s not just the long- awaited warm water & sand but it’s also turtle nesting season! The Oak Island Sea Turtle Protection Program volunteers are busy protecting the nests through the approximate 50 days until the hatchlings emerge.
Take the provided Golf Cart the short distance to the beach to simply wind down and relax and enjoy the views of the ocean or look for turtles laying their eggs, see their protected nests or even witness the hatchlings make their most important first journey to the Atlantic waters.
Back home, relax in the shade & cool breeze either under the cottage or on the upstairs covered front porch. Bring your pooch and let them play in the fenced-in backyard. Rinse off the day’s fun at the beach in the outdoor shower.
As you enter upstairs you are greeted with the serene ambiance knowing you have discovered your beach retreat. Will you play a game or put together a puzzle on the beautiful natural wood coffee table? Plenty of comfortable seating for conversation too. An array of movies is available or stream your favorite show on one of the 4 smart TV’s.
The open, well-stocked kitchen allows for dinner at the dining table or discuss the next day’s plans at the bar while dinner is prepared. Just out the back door is your private screened back porch enhanced in the evening by Edison lights where you can survey the backyard’s activities or the fresh catch on the gas grill. On a cool evening sit around the back yard fire pit in the 4 Adirondack chairs and talk about the fun activities planned for tomorrow!
This home sleeps 6 guests in 3 beautifully decorated bedrooms, each of which has a smart TV. The primary bedroom offers a king bed & an en-suite bathroom with a tub/shower combination. The 2nd bedroom is furnished with 2 twin beds, while the 3rd bedroom has a queen bed. The adjacent bathroom is also configured with a tub/shower combination. Plenty of plush towels are provided in both.
Several areas of the home remind you that you are “Nest Parents”. From Threatened to Critically Endangered status, Sea Turtle conservation is a serious yet fun endeavor in our area. Even if it’s not official nesting season, we want you to seriously have fun making many memories at our Turtle’s Nest.
