About
Relax and leave stresses behind at Hoosier Hideaway! Enjoy the best of the Rocky Mountains in this secluded 2 acre, private 5-bedroom (plus two bunkrooms) family friendly Hideaway! This almost 5,000 sq. ft. house’s neighborhood is just far enough off the beaten path to escape your stresses, but close enough to Breckenridge to ski on that perfect powder day. The mature evergreens and aspens backyard is Pike National Forest and doubles as a trailhead, that leads to Mosquito Creek, a 5-minute stroll from the back door. If you keep going, you will discover a network of forest service trails that are suitable for hiking and mountain biking. Sorry, no fires in the fire pit or anywhere else on the property due to dry conditions.
This four season, peaceful, mountain retreat is bright and airy with its large windows bringing natural sunlight and views of glistening aspen trees. See the edge of the Milky Way galaxy from its sprawling deck which includes a private outdoor hot tub, gas grill, lounging and dining area. You will be amazed at the opportunity of watching moose, elk and other wildlife.
The spacious and comfortable layout invites guests to relax together, or spread-out on three levels. Inside, this modern home, features beautiful architectural details such as a grand stone wood burning fireplace, three dining areas, open staircases and soaring vaulted ceilings. The large chef’s kitchen has ample prep space allowing multiple cooks to work in tandem. The top level has another sitting area, office space and two En-suite Master bedrooms, with one having its own private deck. For indoor entertainment, head to the first level, we call the gaming floor. This level has a private bedroom and a bunkroom (with 4 full beds) which is separated by the entertainment area equipped with a Tv area and seating for many. There is also a 6 person poker table, pool table, glowing commercial air hockey table, shuffleboard, stand-up video games, bar-style dart machine, coffee table foosball and more! This level is a walk-out to a fenced area the kids can play and make snow forts. This property is pet-friendly and will allow up to 2 dogs, so bring along your furry friends and let them enjoy the surrounding nature as well.
You will be close to one of the many trailheads along the Continental Divide plus Mountain Biking, River Rafting, Ski/Snowboard, Snowshoe and Cross-Country Skiing, including fly fishing for the South Park award winning trout. Nearby hiking mountains - Mt Democrat, Lincoln, Bross and Mt Quandary.
Please note the elevation, as we are located at about 10,000 feet in the Central Rockies. In the winter months, you will be required to have (or rent) a vehicle with 4 wheel drive, or 4wd with chains.
For the best experience at Hoosier Hideaway and its mountain living, PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING:
There is not good cell phone service in the mountains in Colorado in general. So do not depend on it. We do offer a Satellite phone, DIRECTV and Satellite Wi-Fi. But again, in the mountains, depending on weather conditions, it will not be 100% all the time and even though we pay for the “fastest” speeds available in the area, they are very slow. There is not an option for streaming movies. We have Elon Musk’s “Starlink” and are currently testing it to make sure it works well before detaching the slower satellite service. Please DO NOT plan a business meeting if you need to “zoom” or such. We cannot guarantee you can do it AT the house. In town, perhaps, but not always within the house. We are about an 8 min drive out of the neighborhood to Hwy 9.
We hope you'll spend much of your time enjoying our incredible landscape, the forest surrounding our home, and just relaxing and playing with all gaming equipment. All ages have an incredible time at our home, and in fact our favorite reviews are the ones that said “we opted out for another day in town/ski to just hang and have fun at the house.”
Our home sits at a higher elevation than Breckenridge and the surrounding towns—approx. 10,500 feet. When you go from low altitudes to high altitudes, your body needs to adjust to the change in oxygen levels. Although most people are not affected, some may feel the effects of the altitude. Before coming out, please do your research on altitude sickness--you may even want to consider spending a night in Denver (at 5,280 feet) to help adjust and pick up a few “Boost Oxygen” type cannisters to have handy. There are also companies that you can rent oxygen concentrators if you think you may struggle more than others. Make sure you are hydrated before and during your stay.
Wildlife is incredible and there are frequent sightings. Please keep in mind how dangerous they are up close and stay in groups and watch children and dogs. We do have a fenced area off the first level, but its mainly for our children and dogs to play while supervised. Wildlife have been known to break into the fencing area and therefore sometimes we find gaps in the fencing. In winter, sometimes the gaps are hard to see. We don’t suggest playing outside in dusk or in the dark. There is a big possibility you will see Elk, Moose, and many other mountain animals. Make sure food that was prepared and/or eaten outside or on the decks have been taken inside before evening time. Bears and other animals can climb up to the decks. And double check that all doors, especially the garage door is ALWAYS closed when not needed to leave house or such. Do not leave garage door open while away or hiking, especially at dusk.
The cabin is 90 miles from Denver, up the scenic and normally traffic free Hwy 285. Its location is the antidote to the I-70 closures since it sits off of HWY 285 & Hwy 9, which literally NEVER closes! So, you have a secret escape route to avoid those I-70 closures and 4-hour ski traffic jams on Sundays or snowy days.
Our Breckenridge vacation rental guests can climb a 14er, 14,000-plus foot mountain at Quandary Peak during summer. Bike rental shops point riders to the paved path along Blue River, stretching for miles of scenic beauty on the way to Frisco. From Frisco, bike to Keystone, around Lake Dillon, and even Vail Pass. Other summer activities include bungee jumping, panning for gold, golf, playing at Peak 8 Fun Park, white-water rafting, and ziplining. When temperatures cool off, play tennis or swim at Breckenridge Recreation Center.
