"For three years we rented The Pelican at Gulf Shores, Alabama and had a wonderful time. But this year an unpleasant surprise was waiting: major contruction less than 100 feet from the house, with pile driving all day and round the clock banging of traffic across a temporary steel bridge. There was no honesty, no up-front disclosure that our peaceful beach vacation spot had become a major construction site. Add to that a visible decline in the cleaning and maintenance and you have a renter you will never trust again. The dryer was stuffed with the equivalent of three loads of wet laundry and left for us to discover, our three year old found pills under a bed (fortunately she was smarter and more honest than the rental agency). Mid-week a heavy lamp fell suddenly from the ceiling (possibly due to pile driving). Fortunately no one was seated at the dining room table when it happened. It was still not fixed when we left three days later and was gradually pulling the wiring out of the ceiling. The "handyman" looked at it, said he was going out to get a 50 cent plant hook to re-hang the lamp and never returned."
Thank you for your most recent stay with us. We are saddened to see the inconveniences you experienced during your stay. Unfortunately we are not in charge of bridge/road construction for our area. When inquiring about the bridge construction we were told that due to the inclement weather our area experienced over the winter the repairs were forced to be postpone until it was feasible. We were also told the old bridge was of danger to our Island tourists and it would have to be completed in accordance with the schedule that was in place. We have asked for updates periodically so that guest could be notified, however in the beginning there would be days when no construction took place at all. Our intention was never to be deceiving! We are committed to our guest enjoying their stay; however circumstances can arise that’s beyond our control. While we realize it is not ideal to travel all day and then find things unpleasant upon arrival, but had we known about the condition of the house upon your arrival that could have been solved immediately. I am not sure why I understand the necessary reason for the 3 year old being under the bed, but I am thankful she was smart enough to bring the ibuprofen to you. Housekeeping has been reevaluated with some new guidelines being enforced. It is possible the lamp fell due to the pile driving at the little lagoon bridge 100 feet from the house; however I could not find a willing construction expert to collaborate your theory. The lamp was looked at on the day you filed the complaint and was fixed when the proper replacement hook was located.
"Even though it was a little cold to be on the beach most of the time, the porches give you the most relaxing places to be with beautiful views of both sun rise on one side and sun set on the other. There is always somewhere you can be outside this house if you choose no matter the weather, swings, hammock, picnic tables and barbeque all under the home. We will return."
