The Savannah Rose Cottage is in an excellent location-a short walk to Troup Square, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and historic Jones Street, voted one of the prettiest streets in the United States. A short drive or 15-minute walk puts you on either Broughton Street or River Street where shopping and dining abound-it truly is the ideal location from which to explore Savannah.

Of historical note: Known as "Beach cottages", these quaint homes are named for their location near the "Beach Institute." The Beach Institute was a school built in 1867 by the Freedmen’s Bureau of the American Missionary Association for the education of newly freed slaves. It was named for Alfred S. Beach, editor of the Scientific American from New York who donated generously to enable the institute’s success. The Beach Institute closed in 1919 and now houses African-American Cultural Museum and remains a prominent tourist landmark of downtown Savannah. Look closely and you will spot the original brick flue in the front of the institute which channeled over 100 years of coal smoke from the little cottage's claw-foot stove out over the depot. Today, a reproduction electric stove recreates the appearance of the original.

Beach cottages were built in the mid 19th century to house the working class railroad laborers and craftsman that created the revered structures of historic Savannah and who also ushered in the greater population growth of the 20th Century. Across the street from this cottage we now have East Broad Elementary School, which was once a bustling railroad depot and main artery of the city's vibrant commerce

I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the cottage inside. Comfortable and supplied with all the essentials, from the kitchen to the bathroom, to make your stay hassle free. If you want to cook, the kitchen has everything you need, except your food. Kroger nearby and Uber can get you downtown for very little $. Highly recommend for single or a couples getaway. Probably ok for a couple of children as well with the couch as a backup. I would definitely stay again!

This cottage is located in a very quiet residential part of downtown , on the eastern edge of the historic district, yet everything the historic district offers is only a short walk away. The cottage itself is very comfortably appointed and it was quite easy for us to quickly feel 'at home.' On-street parking is no problem (although there is street sweeping twice a week so be mindful of the signs --even with that, we had no issues at all finding parking). The kitchen is a modern, large galley-style design with washer-dryer hidden behind closet doors, and the bedroom with walk-in closet also opens onto a very private side yard which is perfect for fresh-air breakfasts. Bathroom was more than adequate and the tub/shower had good water pressure and abundant hot water. More than once throughout our stay, we noted that 'we could easily live here.' We walked everywhere, day and night, without fear and feeling comfortable. This cottage is a keeper. If we had to fault it with anything at all, it was with the Amazon FireStick on the TV's not properly functioning. Otherwise, we highly recommend this cottage as a great place to stay in Savannah (just don't book it when we want to return).

We enjoyed our stay here! Essential items like toiletries and laundry detergent were laid out for us and easy to find. The bed was comfortable. The property was clean and also well decorated. The location was convenient for walking and using the Dot transit system to navigate Savannah. Parking was readily available. We would stay here again.
