Sleeps 10

Nestled in the heart of historic old town Marblehead, Rockmere Inn is a 1-minute walk to boutiques and restaurants, a 5-minute walk to Marblehead's famous harbor, and amidst a lovely stroll in the historic village. Wander along the streets of Marblehead and be transported back to colonial times.

Rockmere Inn harkens back to a time when travelers returned home with wares from long global jaunts. Each piece tells a story. Visitors are embraced by the wares of a global traveler juxtaposed with items that celebrate Marblehead’s seafaring and revolutionary history.

A visit to Rockmere Inn showcases the creativity of local builders, as the unique home traverses the rock ledge that connects Washington St to Mechanic St. As the home meanders up the ledge, each living space is presented as a separate level. Three of the separate levels provide a bedroom suite. The other levels provide the expansive living spaces.

If you want an elegantly appointed, spacious accommodation, Rockmere Inn is the place for you. Guest note: as is typical with many colonial era homes: stairways can be narrow and steep; floors slope. In particular with the home's unique design traversing a ledge, Rockmere Inn has 6 levels.

As one enters Rockmere Inn from the Mechanic St entrance, the guest is greeted by an entertainer’s dining room with a table that easily accommodates 12. A work space and a comfortable seating area overlook the garden. Hidden behind antique pumpkin pine doors are a coat closet, laundry, and a bar with beverage refrigerator.

Central to the dining room is an original, now decorative, fireplace and the 300-year-old barn door that leads to the gourmet kitchen. The kitchen provides seating for 8 and another gorgeous view of the private patio and garden.

Returning through the dining room, one descends to the massive living room decorated with an international traveler’s flair. The living room, anchored by a gas fireplace, easily accommodates 14 with various conversation spaces sprinkled around the room.

Descend to another level, and one enters the Captain’s Quarter. This guest suite features custom paneling and cabinetry by the renowned custom yacht builder, Bruce Dyson. Visitors feel like they’ve entered the quarters of a luxury yacht, with a center mast and surrounded by hand-crafted mahogany cabinets, wet bar, and private bath. The captain’s quarters can be used as another living space or private sleeping quarters with a separate entrance to Washington St.

Returning to the dining room level, one ascends just 3 steps to the master bedroom level. The large master bedroom is elegantly furnished with a king-sized bed, nestled between 2 bedside tables with lamps, a writing desk, decorative fireplace, seating, TV, walk-in closet, and full bathroom.

From the master bedroom level, ascend another set of stairs to another bedroom suite level. The large bedroom is elegantly furnished with a king-sized bed, nestled between 2 bedside tables with lamps, seating, TV, walk-in closet, and 3/4 bathroom.

Finally, take the last 3 steps up to the crew’s quarters which accommodates 4 guests in 2 daybeds with trundles, 2 seating areas, built in dresser drawers, and walk-in closet. The crew’s quarters share the ¾ bath.

About Marblehead

Founded in 1629, Marblehead was a crucial fishing port during the American Revolution; much of its history can be discovered by navigating through the colorful, narrow streets of Old Town. Like an open-air museum, Marblehead flaunts its history not only in its well-preserved 18th-century houses and architecture, national historic landmarks and local shops are sprinkled throughout the town.

After meandering amongst the quaint Colonial houses, take a tour through Marblehead Neck, which leads to the lighthouse. Marvel at the breathtaking views of Marblehead Harbor, birthplace of the US Navy, & a major sailing capital.

Marblehead’s most popular beach, Devereux, has plenty of picnic tables, playgrounds, and on-site restrooms. Gas House Beach is on Little Harbor. With a rocky shore and small boats anchored in tranquil, shallow water, the scene at Gas House is perfectly New England. Active visitors can enjoy a paddle at King’s Beach with views of Boston.

Salem Turns 1in Salem
5/5 stars
This house was perfect for our trip. We were celebrating my Granddaughter’s 1st birthday! Her name is Salem, and we wanted an old time feel. This house was just that house. The furniture and everything was perfect. It was so unique. The hosts answered my emails immediately and checked on us during our stay. Love, love, loved it!

Hi Kelly, We are so thrilled to know that you chose one of our properties to spend such a special birthday at! A big happy birthday to little Salem! We also love the old timing feel that the property offers, and each little part of the property is so unique in its own way. Didn't you love getting to spend time in the private backyard? We truly hope to see you again soon!

A wonderful stay at Rockmere Inn
4/5 stars
Our family stay at Rockmere Inn was very enjoyable. The home was built in 1825, located in the historic district of Marblehead. The charm of the property was fitting for the location and conveniently located in walking distance to many shops, restaurants, and the water. There was adequate room for all nine of us. Fitting with the age of the home, the bathrooms/showers are quite small and the stairs are narrow with uneven steps, along with unlevel floors. So this is may not be ideal for anyone with ambulatory issues, but otherwise, I highly recommend.

Amazing
5/5 stars
This home is absolutely beautiful! Everything was perfect and management was very quick to respond. Our Keurig was broken and they had a brand new one for us that next day. Any questions I had they were quite to answer. Would definitely stay here again! Made my college graduation weekend super special.

Charming 1700’s house in heart of historic Marblehead
4/5 stars
Great house for a group with wonderful details of a 1700’s home. Fantastic location walkable to restaurants, shopping and groceries. Short drive to the beach and CVS. Excellent communication and attention by management. Was a bit hot during the afternoons in the kitchen and upper bedrooms even with AC on but cooled down by evening. Comfortable accommodations. Could use a bit of an update (upholstery stains and grout coming out in shower/tub), but house was clean, beds were comfortable and laundry and dishwasher were great. Would recommend to a group going to Marblehead!

Pretty cool place

This was our first time in Marblehead and the area in general. The home was pretty cool and had a ton of history in it. It was close to all the shops and about 10 mins from Salem. I'd check it out!

Great stay in a great town
5/5 stars
We spent our 40th anniversary week with our family at the Rockmere Inn, and it was everything that we had hoped that it would be. The home was certainly large enough for our entire family of eight to comfortably enjoy the time together, while also being able to have private, quiet times. The large dining room table was a huge hit, accommodating everyone easily, and enabling us to have great family discussions while we ate. Being more than 250 years old, this home has a lot of character, and because it rises up and over a ledge of rock, it has several quirky architectural details that make it unique and add to the charm of its six levels. We wanted to be in the heart of Marblehead's old town, and this house certainly fit the bill, being just a block from the harbor and Crocker Park, as well as being just a very short walk from the Lee Mansion, Abbott Hall, and the old burial grounds. The garden patio was very private and very comfortable, and we spent many family hours outside at the patio table. Our property manager, Liann, was very attentive to our needs, both before we arrived and while we were there. She did a great job helping us with parking for our family, as Marblehead is notorious for having limited available parking. We had a great week in a great house in a great town, and we highly recommend it.

Perfect Vacation
5/5 stars
Our time in this beautiful home was wonderful. The location in the historic section of Marblehead was perfect, and the house easily accommodated 8 of us. The only challenge, for two of the elderly guests. was the number and steep incline of the stairs, both inside and outside of the house. Otherwise, we had the perfect vacation!

TOP NOTCH VACATION RENTAL COMPANY!!! WOW!!!
5/5 stars
We stayed at one of their properties in Marblehead Mass in Old Town for a Thanksgiving family reunion and it was an amazing property. Upon arrival to a (different) rental we had an issue with the heat not shutting off and contacted Liann right away. Liann was very understanding and worked diligently to find us another house right away. With-in 1 hour Liann found us a new house, MAJOR upgrade, and only a 1/2 mile away. The new house was a GREAT! The decor, the history, the furniture and the beds were awesome .... the list really goes on and on. Liann called us right away to make sure we were happy with the new place and the word happy is an understatement!! We cannot thank Liann enough for her 5 star customer service. Your care and fulfilling our needs was spot on and made our Thanksgiving something we will always remember. Thank you so very much. I would highly recommend itrip Vacations to family and friends and will from now on look to them when looking for a vacation spot!! Liann you are the best!

Great Stay at a Unique Home

House and Service was perfect! The Property manager was very accommodating and quick to respond to questions. Weather was fairly cold but the house was remarkably warm for it's age. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to stay in Massachusetts.

A great stay in a beautiful home
5/5 stars
Renting this house was a delight! Liann was exceptionally easy to work with and accessible. We had several requests outside the norm that she quickly and reasonably accommodated. The house is beautifully situated in Marblehead’s historic downtown. We were walking distance from everything. It was the perfect place to celebrate a birthday with family and friends.

Marblehead vacation
5/5 stars
This house is perfect for multiple families or a large family wanting to visit the charming seaside village of Marblehead. The house has four big bedrooms - two with king sized beds. All of the beds in the house are new and extremely comfortable with nice fresh linens. Our hosts provided ample beautiful thick fluffy towels. The kitchen has a great stove and huge refrigerator and plenty of counter space. Besides the large bedrooms, there are lots of terrific areas for family gathering as well. Our favorite spot was the huge dining room table where the kids were able to spread out and play board games for hours on a rainy day. The sleeping quarters are on three different levels so even though we were a party of nine we had plenty of privacy and plenty of room to spread out. We could be together when we wanted to be and also have privacy when we wanted that. Having three full bathrooms was also a huge bonus. Everything worked, including the dishwasher and the washer/dryer. The bedrooms has smart TVs - and the WiFi worked perfectly. The house is well situated in the community and walking distance to everything. There is a parking space right out front of the house which is super convenient. Our party of nine give both this house and the lovely town of Marblehead a 5 star review. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Interesting house in a lovely town
5/5 stars
This house is very unique. It has a lot of stairs and shows its age in the wood floors and the not-straight stairs. It was a wonderful place for our family vacation. We had a great time and didn’t need a car at all. We walked a lot in Marblehead and took an Uber to the Swampscott train station or to the Salem ferry when we wanted to go somewhere outside Marblehead. The house is built on top of a rock on a corner lot so it has six levels. You come in on the third level. This is the more formal living room/dining room in the pictures. The kitchen and laundry are also on this level. Up one level is a bedroom, a bathroom, and an enormous closet with it’s own closet! One more level up is another bedroom, with a king-sized bed, and a bathroom. And then you can go up one more level to a space that has two twin beds in it. It was pretty warm up there at first but we opened the windows and it was lovely. Down a flight of stairs from the entrance level is a less-formal sitting area. This is actually on the second floor when seen from Washington Street. You can go down one more flight of stairs to the ‘game room’. That floor has a wide single bed and a single trundle bed and a bathroom. If you like staying in old houses with a lot of personality, this is a great choice. The hosts left a ‘welcome gift’ in the fridge. The listing is correct, bring your own soap, shampoo, conditioner, and beach towels. Everything else we needed was provided.
